How to Remove Door Speakers in a 2002 Lincoln Navigator

by Stephen Martinez

The Lincoln Navigator is a large sport utility vehicle produced by Ford Motor Company from 1998 until the present. The 2002 Navigator was the last year of the first generation of Navigators, with a major redesign coming in 2003. Replacing the front door speakers in your 2002 Navigator is an easy job that you can perform yourself.

    Items you will need

    • New speaker
    • Trim tool
    • Phillips screwdriver
    • Small flat-head screwdriver
    • Socket set
    Step 1

If removing the front-passenger door speaker, remove the sail trim panel by using a trim tool to pop out the retainer at the top of the panel, then sliding the panel up and out. Remove the screw from the top of the door trim panel. The driver-door trim panel has the sail portion built into the door panel.

    Step 2

Remove the power window switch panel by prying up on the switch plate with the trim tool to release the retainers.

    Step 3

Lift the switch plate out, then unplug the electrical connectors.

    Step 4

Remove the screw covers from the end of the door pull handle with a small flat-head screwdriver, then remove the two door trim panel screws.

    Step 5

Pop out the trim ring around the interior door handle. Remove the door handle bolt and the door handle.

    Step 6

Remove the door trim panel by lifting up on the panel to release it from the door. Do not pull straight out on the door panel, or the retaining hooks will break and you'll have to replace the door panel. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors.

    Step 7

Remove the speaker screws, pull the speaker out of the door, unplug the connector, and remove the speaker.

    Step 1

Place the speaker near its opening and connect the electrical connector. Place the speaker in the opening and reinstall the screws.

    Step 2

Place the door trim panel near the door and hook up the electrical connectors.

    Step 3

Place the door trim panel just above the mounting holes and slide it down and in to engage the retaining hooks in their mounting holes.

    Step 4

Reinstall the door handle and tighten the bolt. Snap the cover back into the panel.

    Step 5

Install and tighten the door pull handle screws and reinstall the screw covers.

    Step 6

Connect the switch panel electrical connectors then position the switch plate in its opening and press down to snap it into place.

    Step 7

On the passenger side, reinstall the screw at the top of the door panel, then install the sail trim by sliding it behind the door trim panel and pressing in.
