The 2005 Chevy Silverado was offered in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab variations, all of which used door-mounted speakers. There are only two reasons you would want to remove the door speakers – one of them have failed, or you just picked up a nice new set of speakers. Aftermarket speakers mount a little differently than the original equipment door speakers, but you can still install them with a little modification.

Front Door Speaker Replacement
Examine the triangular trim piece on the inside of the door, opposite the side-view mirror. Pry outward on the top and side corners of the trim piece with a trim removal tool. Remove the trim extension. Pry outward on the bezel behind the door handle, then rotate the bezel 180 degrees counterclockwise and remove it from the door handle.
Pry the lock lever away from the door trim with a flat-head screwdriver and remove it. Remove the push-in retainer just above the speaker grille. Look toward the rear of the door by the armrest and find the cap positioned next to the door handle. Pry the cap away from the door trim and set it aside.
Remove the two bolts that were hidden behind the lock lever, as well as the bolt next to the armrest and the bolt from the rear edge of the trim panel, with a nut driver. Lift the door panel up and away from the door. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Push down on the top speaker retainer and pull the speaker assembly outward. Lift the bottom tabs out of the door frame. Squeeze the locking tab and disconnect the speaker. Skip Step 5 if you're installing stock speakers.
Hold a new 6 1/2-inch speaker against the speaker hole in the door frame. Position the speaker mounting holes over the door frame. Mark the door frame through the mounting holes with a permanent marker. Set the speaker aside. Drill through the four marked areas with a 1/8-inch drill bit and a drill. Connect the speaker wires to the speaker. Set the speaker into the speaker hole and align the speaker mounting holes with the holes you drilled in the door frame. Secure the speaker to the door with 1/4-inch by 1/4-inch metal screws. Skip the next step if you're installing aftermarket speakers.
Connect the electrical connector to the speaker. Set the bottom speaker tabs into their respective holes in the door frame. Tilt the top of the speaker into the door frame and push in on the speaker frame. The locking tab will click when it has locked into place against the door.
Connect the power window and door lock switch electrical connectors. Set the top of the door trim panel onto the door frame and tap down on it to secure it in place. Install the push pin retainer and the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 18 inch-pounds with a socket, 1/4-inch-drive extension and inch-pounds torque wrench. Install the cap onto the door trim and tap it into place.
Align the lock lever with the opening in the door trim and push it into place. Set the triangular door trim extension into place and tap on it until the locking clips engage. Slide the door handle bezel over the door handle and rotate it 180 degrees clockwise. Push the bezel into the door trim until the locking clips engage.
Extended Cab Door Speaker Removal
Open the side access door. Pry outward on the door handle bezel with a flat-head screwdriver. Rotate the bezel counterclockwise 180 degrees, then slide it off the door handle.
Remove the screw inside the armrest and cup holder with a Phillips screwdriver. Pry the door panel away from the door frame with a trim removal tool.
Push down on the front speaker retainer and tilt the speaker outward. Pull the left side of the speaker from the door frame. Squeeze the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connector.
Extended Cab Door Speaker Installation
Connect the speaker wires to the speaker. Set the left side of the speaker into the mounting holes on the door frame. Tilt the speaker towards the door frame and push on the locking tab. The clip will snap into place when the speaker is secured.
Hold the door trim in place. Tap around the edges of the door trim to engage the locking tabs to the door frame. Make sure the trim sits flush around the door.
Slide the door handle bezel over the door handle. Rotate the bezel clockwise 180 degrees and set it into the door trim. Push on the bezel until it locks into place.
Crew Cab Door Speaker Replacement
Open the rear door. Pry outward on the door handle bezel and rotate it 180 degrees. Remove the bezel from around the door handle. Slide the door handle clip remover behind the window handle and push the clip from around the handle. Remove the window handle, if equipped.
Pry outward on the courtesy light cover with a flat-head screwdriver. Disconnect the electrical connector from the light and place the light assembly aside. Pry outward on the lock lever and remove it from the door trim.
Look just below the speaker grille and remove the trim-panel screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Hold the trim panel in place and remove the screw above the arm rest. Slide the panel upward and pull the panel away from the door. Disconnect the window switch electrical connectors, if equipped.
Remove the speaker bolts with a socket and ratchet. Pull the speaker out of the bracket and disconnect the speaker wires.
Connect the electrical connector to a new speaker. Set the speaker into place and install the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 53 inch-pounds, using a torque wrench. Connect the window switch electrical connector, if equipped.
Align the door-trim retainers with the holes in the door frame. Slide the panel down to engage the retainers to the door frame.
Install the screws above the arm rest and below the speaker grille. Tighten the screws to 18 inch-pounds with an inch-pounds torque wrench and Phillips screwdriver adapter. Align the lock lever with the hole in the door trim and push it into place.
Hold the courtesy lamp close to the door trim and connect the electrical connector. Install one side of the lamp into the door and push the opposite side into the door trim. Make sure the window handle clip is on the window handle and push the handle onto the window crank, if equipped.
